You may like to check that you are achieving the following. • All your campaigns outside of the most generic keywords should be achieving at least a 10% Click Through Rate (CTR). • You should be using conversion tracking. Your conversion rates should be above 5%. • You hold the top key positions at a low CPC. • The cost per conversion should be less than the gross profit for the sales generated. Each industry is different but as a rule of thumb if your conversion costs per sale are higher than 30% of your gross profit, a serious problem exists. • Your campaigns are well structured. If an Campaign / Adgroup appears confused in the keywords mix especially if it's appealing to a variety of products and services you will not achieve high performance. • Large accounts are using the Adwords client centre. • Broad match is very carefully controlled. • Each week you should receive or generate a list of search phrases (not keywords) split into new potential keywords and unwanted off topic keywords. Examine actual user search terms instead of keywords. You or your agency should be actively reducing cost each week. • The number and variety of Ads is a common give away. If you have only a few generic ads you have performance issues. Beware of Ads using Keyword insertion to cover all search terms. This is a classic example that your account sliding into the long grass of underperformance. |
